Shot progression for scene2Shot04

Monday, December 8, 2014

here is the newest edit as of today, some more scenes will be coming in this morning so I expect it will change considerably soon.

added the bowing people in this panorama scene, and had to re-do the waterfalls and add sparkles that would fade in and out for the river. This was tough because of all the elements in the scene would cause tvpaint to crash every time I worked on it. I also tried two variations of this scene one with an ease in/out and one with a set speed.

here is the reveal shot for all the tribes warriors, its a fun shot because the paralax and movement help break up the stationary camera pattern and add some drama, really wish I could have spent more time on this but has to be CBB at this moment.

This week my we got Scene3shot04 colored up and looking nice, now need to add the people in the BG.

Tragedy right here, I just re-did the hair for this walk cycle so it would flow better and now I cannot find the file, I also had the body shaded throughout

Here are some finished BGs rendered by a teammate based on collaborative designs.

The crabby scene fully inked and colored and looking FINE and some crappy waves for the BG of the opening scene that may or may not every be rendered and colored nicely.

An effects test for the waterfall panorama and a color ink test for the anim.

An update of the throne design BG and a new animatic chopped up to speed the whole thing up

Friday, September 12, 2014

The animation BGs all lined up, and a draw-over version to help get them all consistent.  My team did an awesome job at creating BGs based on my various notes and scribbles and I am stoked at how it all looks so far.

Some new blocked out animation for my Jarl animated short

Thursday, September 4, 2014

A quick walk cycle for the Jarl animation, needs some serious cleanup at this point.

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Newest Edit, a lot of the blocked anim has been cleaned up a bit and made more refined in Scene 2, scenes 1 and 3 still need a lot more help though.

I have also been working on 2d assets for a friend's animation this semester called "Beach Body" Here is the 2d scent "smoke" I did for his 3d animation. This took a lot of effort to figure out but we settled on giving me an enormous sized playblast that encompassed the total area the camera would travel with some buffer space. The camera is represented by the little shaded box, in this way I could animate simply from point A to B and do the translation myself without having to keep up with the camera. This took more time than I expected to get it looking right but I am happy with it.

I also was asked to make a caricature of Steve Buscemi for the animation to be used as a texture on a lotion label. This was lots of fun and great practice in photoshop painting.
New blocking segments for shots 3 and 4 of scene two, where the two characters meet.
I really like these two blocked segments because of all the movements, but they may be trimmed or altered for clarity. I also have the blocking for the title sequence and 2/11 blocking here as well.

Friday, May 2, 2014

Here is the blocking for the scene when the two characters first meet, a lot of changes still need to be made but the timing and overall poses are looking pretty good. I wanted to have this fullbody establishing shot in there despite how tough this little snippet of animation might be because most of the other shots in this scene are close ups.

Here is the rough blocking for the title sequence/first shot of the animation. Its tough because we decided to add the little crab character to further establish the girl's mean but incompetent actions but it is so easy to want to add stuff and more stuff. There was a longer sequence sketched up but it was too much.

Alterations to the into beach scenes, had to change the color of the sand to not compete with her skin tone, added more foreground elements, and changed the skyline a little bit, also still trying to figure out a new title.

Friday, April 18, 2014

Started painting the opening beach scene, still figuring out the details of the intro scene.

Friday, April 11, 2014

Been working on some blocking for my animation, here are some rough blocking passes. I am also working on the BG paintings at the same time. I have found that while drawing poses are a lot of fun, my process needs some tweaking to maximize productivity.

Several versions of Barb character's color scheme. My faculty advisors were concerned she blended in too much with the background too much, The second to the left will likely be the final version.

Friday, March 21, 2014

This week was Spring Break and due to the immense amount of preparation that needed to be done before GDC I was unable focus solely on my animation Project. Instead I designed a portfolio website and polished up my demo reel and illustrations for display and critique at GDC. The website can be found here

Here is the new Throne BG concept, this image is far from done but is meant to get the color, composition and lighting finalized for this scene. I really enjoy this bg painting. Also an early concept for the throne

Here is the original character reference sheet.
Here are two newer versions of the panorama, Changes made include; warming up the horizon line in the center, receding the mountains to parody the shape of the cliff, adding mist to the valley, and changing the clouds to be less flat. I also decided to change the ground colors to be less gold.

I ma currently working on transferring my animatic to the animation package I will be using for the animation. I have also began making some of the bigger BG paintings

Friday, February 28, 2014

Animatic is close to entering production, my faculty advisors are satisfied with how it reads and the pacing as it is now. Next step is to bring it into an animation package and get the pans in so timing can be checked.

2/21/14 Update

The newest version of the animatic, the timing feels a lot better and the entire sequence is much easier to follow. There are not many more changes to be made, so hopefully I can start bringing it into production soon.  The images are the templates for the background assets being made for the jungle scenes of the animation.

Still improving Timing on my animatic, almost finished getting the "gags" to read with some degree of humor.

Friday, February 7, 2014

Newest incarnation of my animatic, much work has been done on the timing and duration of each shot. I have also changed several scenes to include more dynamic shots and emphasize the cutesy gags. More drawings of the characters have been added to help the intended animation read better.

Animatic Progress Update

Here is the newest edit for my animatic. Several camera shots have been altered for clarity and readability. I have also been adjusting the timing extensively to adjust the altered and added shots. Rough color key backdrops have been added to help set and maintain tone of environment. Next on the do list will be adding additional edits to decrease static/ animation intensive shots.
